Dance is a great way to get fit and have a fun time. The Red Shoes Dance Academy at Candlers Shopping Center, Lynchburg, has classes for kids, teens and adults. You can choose from tap, ballet and contemporary dance. Red Shoes also has private lessons for those who’d like to learn wedding dance. They have expert instructors that offer a high standard of instruction.
If you’ve always wanted to learn martial arts, there’s the FEKS Martial Arts, Karate, Krav Maga, MMA and Kickboxing Center. Like Red Shoes they’ve got classes for kids, teens and adults. FEKS takes students of all levels, so don’t worry if you have no previous background in martial arts. Choose between MMA, Muay Thai kickboxing, Brazilian jiu jitsu and krav maga and get fighting fit!
Over at the Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Programs you have a wide ranging choice of arts, crafts and new skills you can learn. Classes are for beginners as well for more advanced levels.
Arts include drawing, painting, stained glass, dance, or multimedia art classes and programs.
If you’d like to hone your craft skills you can learn beading, papier mache or how to make Ukrainian Easter eggs among other things.
You can take classes in guitar, or join the Hill City Ukulele Circle. The Needle Arts program has classes in sewing and knitting. You can try your hand at pottery at the Art Studio at Jackson Heights.
The multimedia classes include digital photography, pen and ink drawing and pen and ink feathers.
If you’ve always wanted to learn the fine art of artisan baking, here’s your chance. The culinary program from Lynchburg Parks and Recreation has courses in artisan bread making, pasta and fermentation.
If you’d like to learn a new sport, or improve your athletic skills at your favorite sport, Lynchburg is the right place to be. The Lynchburg Parks and Recreations Department offers a full athletics program working together with partner organizations. A series of Enrich programs are also offered by Lynchburg Parks and Recreations Department. You can learn voice/acting, take a course in Literature, or brush up on your Spanish skills and learn advanced Spanish through song and conversation.
There are courses in gardening, butterflies and desert landscapes. You can even attend rain barrel workshops and learn deer management.
Lynchburg Parks and Recreations also holds a series of community events throughout the year. There’s the basketball league, softball tournament, a golf tournament and an Easter Egg Roll, to name a few.
